Things are finally starting to bloom in the garden. I've been spoilled by the unseasonable weather - we haven't had snow since mid-march, so I think that everything should be blooming by now - even though it is still very early. Many years ago I managed to snap a photo of this magnificent tree in my back yard - the leaves were gold, the sky was a beautiful blue - a perfect shot. My father asked for the print, and I happily gave it to him. Every year I try again to recapture that image, without success. The leaves are never as deep a gold, the sky never that azure blue. I treasure the memory that my father liked it so much that he asked for the copy, and kick myself for not getting another copy printed while I could still find the negatives. I though about some orange flowers, or leaves or other fall related images, but in the end I had to process this photo I took on Thursday of Jack Layton leaving the House of Commons. For those of you outside of Canada, Jack Layton was the leader of the New Democratic Party and he died shortly after leading his party to it's most successful result in our last election, to being the Official Opposition. Orange is the colour of the NDP, and it seems only fitting to pay tribute to Jack.
They sold the farm this year but the memories will last.
I've been reading up on composition, the golden rule, etc. etc. and I've made an alternate crop. The texture is a bit off due to the cropping, but I'm trying to see if there is a difference in subtle cropping. I may post these two images to a photo group and see if I get any comments.
I wanted to be able to show the before and after. So - for this week - here is my attempt at "it's the little things"

I'm not certain how the mouse-over will work for posting a thumbnail, so I may post the final image again.

I used Kim's Greyday vintage and I overlaid this photo I took at the cottage. I think I like the effect and will try it again.

Thanks for commenting.
