Monkshood

Monkshood is generally one of the last flowers in my garden.  It blooms so late that some years the snow and hard frost come before the bloom.

This photo has two layers of Kim's "Phoebe" plus one of "and then some"

Black Walnut

Many years ago I managed to snap a photo of this magnificent tree in my back yard - the leaves were gold, the sky was a beautiful blue - a perfect shot.  My father asked for the print, and I happily gave it to him.  Every year I try again to recapture that image, without success.  The leaves are never as deep a gold, the sky never that azure blue.  I treasure the memory that my father liked it so much that he asked for the copy, and kick myself for not getting another copy printed while I could still find the negatives.

Foggy morning

I woke up early to go to the bathroom and discovered this on my way

Japanese Maple

I managed to snap some lovely photographs this weekend, but not much in the way of fall colours.  It seems like the unseasonable warm spell has postponed the leaf changes.  Here is a Japanese Maple leaf from the spring.  I used Kim's "Dusty Rose" and "Thursday" textures and boosted the saturation.

Texture Tuesday - Do

I love rowing. I love being in a boat with my crew on crisp fall mornings or misty spring mornings. I love pulling together and getting a great run on the boat. I don't like waking up at 4:25 to do it.

Texture Tuesday - Cracker Jack

I haven't had my camera out in weeks - the weather wasn't cooperating and uninspired by my regular photo challenge.  I love the look of cracker jack so I dug out an old photo from the winter.  It seemed to suit the texture

Hope you enjoy!

Jack

This week's theme for Texture Tuesday is orange. I though about some orange flowers, or leaves or other fall related images, but in the end I had to process this photo I took on Thursday of Jack Layton leaving the House of Commons. For those of you outside of Canada, Jack Layton was the leader of the New Democratic Party and he died shortly after leading his party to it's most successful result in our last election, to being the Official Opposition. Orange is the colour of the NDP, and it seems only fitting to pay tribute to Jack.

Back to School

This week's texture challenge was "back to school" and since I've been busy and uninspired I figured I'd dig out an old picture. This was my very first school picture, and in fact it had to be retaken later in the year when I had lost some teeth due to a processing error. Well - these days photoshop can take care of those little problems.

I used Kim Klassen's textures Golden, Dusty Rose, and Water Stained Frame.

Movie edition

This week's challenge was to pick a movie.  Unfortunately I couldn't think of anything to shoot, so I went through some old images and thought of some old John Ford westerns.  Here we go:

I used Kim's textures Bent Edges and Old Linen

Homestead

This is where my brother-in-law grew up. They sold the farm this year but the memories will last.

I've been reading up on composition, the golden rule, etc. etc. and I've made an alternate crop.  The texture is a bit off due to the cropping, but I'm trying to see if there is a difference in subtle cropping.  I may post these two images to a photo group and see if I get any comments.

and the overlay...

Previous Texture photos

Here are some of my previous entries in Texture Tuesday

This is a test of a new way of posting my Texture Tuesday images.  I wanted to be able to show the before and after.   So - for this week - here is my attempt at "it's the little things"

I'm not certain how the mouse-over will work for posting a thumbnail, so I may post the final image again.

I used Kim's Greyday vintage and I overlaid this photo I took at the cottage. I think I like the effect and will try it again.

Thanks for commenting.
